The community radio station "Tilos Radio" was established in 1991. Objectives and basic principles have remained the same: we have always wanted to operate a round-the-clock, non-profit, independent community radio station, which broadcasts in Budapest and is very different from other stations.
Tilos Radio belongs to its audience. For that to be realised, there is a lot of dissemination, PR and crowd funding of different kinds necessary: Tilos is the only Hungarian media outlet that is fully supported by donations from its audience.
The collision of arguments, views and ideas is vital for the radio. Among the nearly 300 active members of the radio we can find some of the biggest underground DJs, party/event organizers, the key figures of alternative cultural scenes, but also many civil activist, working for main national NGO's. The contribution of all these different knowledge backgrounds keeps this radio able to exist, to grow and to remain fresh even after more than 20 years.
